Melody of Love and Damnation
By Destini Beckham
The melody
that rises
from the caves beneath
tells a tale of humanity.
Dating back
before cities tall
even before
Emperors sought to conquer all.
In a time
when raw meat
was what was considered a feast
and we knew little speech.
This melody
was a vow
that even the sightless
wouldn’t be cast out.
Loved and cared for
all the same
for all were considered
valued even the lame.
Oh why does so many not view them the same?
