Magic Eyes
By Destini Beckham
Within the swirls of the purple light our
souls dance and the spirits sing pitiful
Mournful beautiful symphonies a heart full
Of broken melody tears sting ever sweet.
Sing oh sing oh sweet hummingbird with beak
of piercing gold and feathers red as the summer’s rose
perched on high of the wizard’s throne who took
my lover far away into the darkness.
We told her look away avoid the gaze
of the wizard’s eyes purple and bright
but she didn’t hear our plight on that night
so the hummingbird sings and our tears sting.
As her rosy hair so bright and fair
disappeared like it was never there with
only her glasses with tinted gold remains
to comfort my weary soul who dances without a home.
